Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie

I had never heard of this pie before, but after my husband had this cookie pie at a restaurant I had to find the recipe. It seems to be a famous as there were a lot of recipes on the web. This one was on the Nestle’s web site. My husband is one happy camper. Speaking of camping this would be awesome to make in an outdoor Dutch oven too. The texture of the cookie dough is more like pecan pie than cookies as there is no baking soda and not as much flour.

Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie

1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust (if using frozen crust thaw completely)
¾ cup butter, softened
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup flour
1 cup Nestle semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large mixing bowl mix the butter and sugars together until combined and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat until combined. Add vanilla and flour.

Combine and then add chocolate chips and nuts.

Pour filling into unbaked pie shell. Bake on center rack of oven for about 55 to 60 minutes or until knife inserted about half way from center of pie to the edge comes out clean. Let cool about 1 hour on a rack, serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

To make Gluten Free buy a frozen GF pie crust and use Gluten Free Flour. Be sure to thaw the crust before filling.
