I have a lot of apples and thought this would be fun to try. I have a convection oven and I have heard it can be used as an Air Fryer. Working with that idea, I started with this recipe. If you have an Air Fryer you can use that, or you just use a regular oven. Of course, you can use a dehydrator too.
Baked Apple Chips
2 Crisp apples, Granny Smith or Pink Lady or Honey Crisp
1 Tablespoon Sugar, optional
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or with a rack. Slice apples into rings by using a mandolin or very sharp knife. Slice the apples into 1/8-inch thick rounds. They don’t have to be round just thin slices. I used my food processor and made them just thin slices.
Arrange the apples in a single layer onto the two baking sheets. Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon. Bake for 1 hour and turn and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon again. Continue baking for 1 to 1 ½ additional hours. To test to see if they are to your liking, remove 1 piece of apple from the oven and allow to cool. Taste to see if as crisp as you would like, if not continue cooking. When done as you would like, remove from oven, and allow to cool.
An air-fry takes about 1 ½ hours, a convection oven takes about 2 hours. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Serve as a snack with a yogurt as a dip, or on top of your oatmeal, or right from the cookie sheet.
