Frito Chili Pie

Super Bowl time is just around the corner and as always I am making a recipe from the Host City. SO……Houston loves football and Frito Chili Pie!

Frito Chili Pie

2 pounds Ground Hamburger ½ Cup minced Onion 1 Tablespoon minced Garlic 1 can (12-14 Oz. Size) Tomato Sauce 1 can (10 Ounce) Ro-tel (diced Tomatoes And Chilies) 1/2 teaspoon Salt ½ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper 1 teaspoon Ground Oregano 1 ½ Tablespoon Ground Cumin 2 Tablespoons Chili Powder 1 Tablespoon Beef Base 1 can (14-ounce) Kidney Beans, Drained And Rinsed 1 can (14-ounce) Chili Seasoned Pinto Beans, DO NOT Drain or Rinse 1/4 cup Masa (corn Flour) 1/2 cup Warm Water 8 Individual Bags Fritos Corn Chips Diced Onion for serving Approx. 3 Cups Grated Sharp Cheddar Cheese Dairy Sour Cream

Brown ground hamburger with onion and garlic in a Dutch Oven over medium-high heat. Use a potato masher to break up the hamburger. Drain hamburger then add back to pot. Add tomato sauce, Rotel, salt, cayenne, oregano, cumin, chili powder and beef base. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for at least 30 minutes. Add the beans and bring back to a simmer.

In a small bowl Mix masa with water, stir until smooth. Add to the chili. Stir to combine and simmer for a final 10 to 15 minutes. Set aside. (If you don’t have masa put corn meal into your blender and process for a few minutes.)

Serve by slicing the Frito bags open lengthwise. Scoop the chili onto the Fritos in the bag and top with cheese, diced onion, and sour cream if using. Serve immediately, just eat out of the bag!

**Gluten Free as is and Dairy Free by leaving out cheese and sour cream.

I tried German Spaetzle while in Florida, they made it Gluten Free for me. It was love at first bite. We had it with Schnitzel, which is similar to Chicken Fried Steak but made with Pork. Spaetzle
