Muddy Buddies / Lemon Buddies

Thanksgiving means playing card games and having some fun snacks. These two are family favorites. Hope you enjoy them too.


Muddy Buddies


1 12-ounce box of Chex Cereal, any variety (9-10 cups)

1/3 cup margarine or butter

1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate

3/4 cup peanut butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups powdered sugar


Measure cereal into very large bowl. In a glass bowl, at least 1 quart in size, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter uncovered on high for 1-minute stir. Microwave 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal in bowl, stirring until evenly coated. Pour cereal mixture into 2-gallon plastic food-storage bag, add powdered sugar. Seal bag, then shake until well coated. Spread out onto waxed paper to cool.


*To make Gluten Free use corn or rice Chex.


Lemon Buddies


1 12-ounce box of Chex Cereal (rice or corn) (9-10 Cups)

1 ½ Cup white chocolate chips

¼ Cup butter or margarine

1 lemon zested, about 2 Tablespoons

¼ Cup lemon juice (about 1 lemon)

2 Cups powdered sugar

½ teaspoon citric acid, optional


Measure cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.

In a small pan melt the white chocolate chips, butter, lemon zest and juice. Heat over medium heat and stir until smooth.

Pour mixture over cereal, and then stir until evenly coated.

Pour into a 2-gallon resealable food storage bag.

Add powdered sugar and citric acid to the top of the cereal, seal bag and shake until the cereal is well-coated with the sugar.

Pour out onto waxed paper to cool.


*To make Gluten Free use corn or rice Chex *to make dairy free use margarine and Dairy free chocolate chips.
